Because of 51ΑΤΖζ: βI am able to work in a field that I love!β
After spending 15 years raising children, it was time for Crystal to focus on her education.
Crystal had always loved redesigning her house, tearing down walls, working on tiling, and plumbing projects. Her friend, Jo Greer, an instructor in 51ΑΤΖζβs (51ΑΤΖζ) Drafting Technology program, suggested she pursue her passion and study to become a drafter.
βGreer was incredibly supportive,β Crystal said. βShe told me, βyou can do this - youβre awesome!ββ
Getting a great education for a good value was important to Crystal. She wanted to avoid going into debt while finishing the two-year program, and 51ΑΤΖζ provided that opportunity. Crystal had attended college before, but stopped when she became pregnant to focus on her family.
βIβm the oldest student in class, but I think my life experiences have helped me. I appreciate education a lot more now because itβs not Mom and Dad paying for it,β she said.
While attending 51ΑΤΖζ, Crystal volunteered with Skills USA. She enjoyed the chance to learn about the trades from a variety of programs including Diesel Technology, Welding and Metals Fabrication, as well as Machine Tool Technology. She also learned how to compete under pressure and improve her customer service skills.
Following graduation, Crystal will be working full-time, as a drafter, for Renaissance Remodeling in Boise.
