For the third year, is supporting 51ÁÔÆæ (51ÁÔÆæ) students through a contribution to the College's Student Emergency Fund.
The 51ÁÔÆæ Foundation received $13,500 to help students facing unexpected financial hardships, providing a critical safety net when unforeseen challenges threaten their academic progress. The fund provides short-term financial assistance for needs such as housing, medical expenses, transportation, and other emergencies that can create barriers to student success.
The impact of the fund can be life-changing. Earlier this year, a Medical Assistant student and single mother was recovering from a severe medical emergency that left her hospitalized and unable to work for several weeks. After being released from the hospital, she learned she had lost her job and was facing eviction due to unpaid rent.
With support from the Student Emergency Fund, the student was able to cover her outstanding rent, avoid eviction, and remain focused on her final semester. The assistance provided the stability she needed to complete her program and begin a new career in health care.
"I felt like I was drowning after I woke up in the hospital only to find out I had lost my job and was losing my home," the student said. "The emergency fund did not just pay my rent; it gave me the air I needed to breathe and continue with my degree. Today, I am stable, employed, and my son is safe. I would not be here without that help."
Unexpected hardships can affect any student. By helping students navigate unexpected setbacks, the Student Emergency Fund provides support when it is needed most and helps students continue working toward their educational and career goals.
